TREGOYD HOUSE

Tregoyd House is situated at the foot of the Black Mountains in Breconshire, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The countryside around is quite breathtaking and the views at all the activities, when you pause to look around you, are quite outstanding.

The house itself is an imposing country mansion, the former home of Lord Hereford, which in spite of its conversion to an activity centre still retains lots of its original features, in particular the wonderfully ornate ceilings and grand entrance hall with the main staircase sweeping up from it.

The grounds are also very attractive and consist of seven acres of formal gardens, lawns and parkland, where most of the "dry" activities take place. (The inverted commas are intentional - at PGL even the "dry" activities tend to get rather wet........)

Our accommodation was very comfortable (a vast improvement on our more usual tents!) with the girls in one large dormitory and the three of us sharing a large room, with good showers and plenty of hot water (which we needed...)

Left : On the balcony of the Teachers' Lounge at Tregoyd : since we were the only organised group at Tregoyd at the time we were quite happy to allow the girls (and anyone else, for that matter - we "collected" quite a few of the other youngsters too) to use the lounge for a quiet sit down and "chill out" after the day's activities. It was also a useful vantage point for sneak attacks during the regular water fights .......... for photos see this page.

We had a wonderful time - the staff were amazing and the atmosphere truly unique. Without exception, the instructors were as mad as hatters and worked unbelievably hard to make our stay enjoyable and memorable, and the groupies were, in the girls' words, "wicked." To those Grand Masters of the noble art of Kid Control, Josh and Trina, I take off my hat - you were awesome - and most of all, we must thank Flick - I've been to PGL several times and the groupies have always been brilliant, but Flick - you're the best!!
